Prediction of potential net panel selectivity in mesopelagic trawls

The growing interest in harvesting mesopelagic fish species has increased the need for knowledge about how trawls should be designed optimizing catch efficiency of these resources. Since net herding small is unknown, targeting to consider potential panel selectivity along entire trawl body. Therefore, engineers and makers who design know which parameters, such as mesh size, opening angles, tapering can used body avoid selectivity, thus maximizing efficiency. This study addresses gaps using an approach based on laboratory experiments with a simulation model that help predicting selectivity. Three designs have been experimental fisheries Northeast Atlantic are investigated this study. Two them (trawl 1 2) had small-mesh liners belly extension piece while third didn't. shows reduces increase • large were studied. geometry was measured under fishing operations.
